What level of editing do I provide?
There are a few different types of editing that can be done and each of them require different levels of interaction with a piece.
Proofreaders look for grammatical errors like punctuation and spelling as well as tense and proper capitalization. This is Level 1 editing. It's always helpful to get additional sets of eyes on a work to check for things like this. This is my default setting when I read anything.
Copyediting is Level 2 editing. This includes the things proofreaders look for, but also helps with making sure the text makes sense and is easy to understand. I will also keep an eye on the overall flow of the work and suggest changes IF that's something you as the author would be interested in.
Line editing is Level 3. After the basic edits are done, a deeper dive looking at every line and paragraph and seeing how well the overall flow is. This looks more at word choice and sentence structure than grammar or overall story editing.
Developmental/Structural editing is the most in-depth edit step. This looks at the story as a whole, or the series as a whole, and making sure that the plot lines, characters, plot, etc, all make sense. This is the level of editing I provide.
